WE’RE DREAMING OF A BEACH CHRISTMAS…
CARIBBEAN ESCAPE IS TOP DREAM DESTINATION FOR FESTIVE SEASON ACCORDING TO TRAVEL INSURER AND 33% OF PEOPLE ARE TRAVELING ABROAD OVER CHRISTMAS
It seems the combination of the credit crunch and freezing weather are making a Caribbean beach holiday the number one dream festive destination for most of us, according to travel insurance provider Preferential, which polled 350 people in an online survey.
31% of participants chose the response ‘Caribbean Beach’ when asked ‘If money were no object, where would your dream Christmas be?’. Other choices included ‘At home in the UK’ (16%), ‘A Swiss ski chalet’ (17%) and ‘Finnish Lapland to meet Santa Claus’ (17%). Individual responses included ‘Mexico’, ‘Japan’ and the rather ‘bah humbug’ response of, ‘Anywhere where Christmas isn’t celebrated’.
However, it seems that the credit crunch is not stopping people from actually travelling abroad over Christmas, as according to the survey, 33% of those who took part are planning to travel to foreign climes over the festive season – with destinations as far afield as Ethiopia, Antigua, Egypt, New York, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and Hawaii.
Preferential managing director, Steve Nickerson comments; “People need something to look forward to, so we are not surprised that many are taking advantage of the Christmas and New Year break to travel abroad, and also, that people are dreaming of a Caribbean Christmas, rather than a white one!”
